Evans (the coins of the ancient Britons 1864 p. Sagt: „the portrait being that of Cunobelinus, represented after the manner of the Roman emperors.

Primarily focused on Greek coins, rare finds from regions not commonly explored lend a fresh perspective to this captivating study. Inside, coin enthusiasts and academics alike will find a wealth of discoveries, each one enhancing our understanding of ancient cultures. In Greece itself, the author takes us to remote outposts in Crimea, shedding light on cities and their rulers through detailed analysis of newly discovered coins. The excavation of a significant hoard of coins in Turkey provides the rare opportunity to reassess the dating of many significant coin types. While examining known but poorly understood coins, the author endeavors to reconstruct specific details of historical importance. The author has grouped coins in this book by geographic origin, presenting a structured, comparative study grounding each analysis in a historical context. Coins from Palestine, Phoenicia, Asia Minor, and other regions, many of them previously unpublished and unknown, contribute to an argument that reconstructs historical narratives and presents new perspectives on regional power dynamics. The author makes a compelling case for coins offering much more than just a medium of exchange. Each coin, in its alloy, depiction, and inscription, constitutes a unique source of historical and cultural information that this book makes accessible through detailed description and penetrating analysis, opening doors to a deeper understanding of the ancient world.
