Excerpt from The United States Coinage of 1793, Cents and Half Cents: Descriptions of the Various Dies Bearing That Date, With Notes on the Establishment of the Mint
The descriptions may be thought to be too lengthy, and to enter too much into the minutiae of the details; but it is designed to make them so definite that errors in identification may be avoided, and the recognition of every specimen be rendered certain even though much worn, or if no other impression from the die to which it is likened or with which it is compared, should be at hand for reference.
