Die vorliegende Untersuchung beschäftigt sich mit den Sculp7 turen des _xiii. Jahrhunderts im Bamberger Dome. Unser Thema gehört also der Geschichte der Plastik eu. Es liegt aber im Wesen ‚der mittelalterlichen Baukunst begründet, dass die bildnerische Ausstattung niemals ohne die Berücksichtigung der Baugeschichte betrachtet werden kann. Im Bamberger Dome ist diese Verknüp fung eine besonders enge. Wir müssen also, ehe wir uns den Sculpturen selbsb zuwenden, erst über den historischen? Verlauf der_bauarbeiten am Dome klar werden.
