Excerpt from The Print Collector; An Introduction to the Knowledge Necessary for Forming a Collection of Ancient Prints<br/><br/>The compiler of this little work has been a print-collector for upwards of twenty years, but he would much overstate its purport and pretensions if he were to profi'er it as containing the fruit of that length of experience: such experience is not of a nature to be communicated in words, or imparted by instruction, or acquired otherwise than by practice alone. All that he professes to do is to afford some little assistance to the young collector, such as shall enable him to commence his pursuit in a right direction. But, although it is not the fruit of experience that he pretends to communicate, it is the result of experience that induces him to publish. When he first began collecting, he was totally ignorant of all that is to be learned on the subject; he had a love for works of art....
