This publication is the fifth volume in a series of Venetian State papers pertaining to England, spanning the reign of Henry VIII. These are firsthand accounts of Venetian envoys covering a period of profound change in England. The period in question was the tail end of Henry's reign and the time of his eventual break with the Roman communion and formation of the Church of England. These dispatches were recorded in the Marcian library in Venice, and provide a unique perspective on the attitudes and motivations of the English court as they navigated this momentous constitutional and religious transition. The insights from these pages help us gain a better understanding of the actors involved and the broader political dynamics which were at play in Europe during this revolutionary period.
