Synopsis

The books of Ezra and Nehemiah, Leipzig, 1901; D.C. Siegfried, Esra Nehemia und Esther, Göttingen, 1901; M. Seisenb erger, Esdras, Nehemias und Esther, Wien, 1901; J oh. Nik el, Die Wiederherstellung des Jüdischen Gemeinwesens nach dem babylonischen Exil, Freiburg, 1900, und F. E. Gi got, Special Introduction to the study of the old Testament. Part I, New York, 1901.

The author delves into the political, religious, and social challenges faced by the returnees as they sought to rebuild their community and reestablish their faith. Through a careful analysis of the texts, the author sheds light on the complex relationship between the Jewish community and the surrounding nations, particularly the Samaritans.
