Synopsis

A portrait of courage, community, and change on a frontier ranch and tepee

Set against the backdrop of Oklahoma land and tribal life, this tale follows Piokee, a young Indian girl who helps her foster family while shaping a hopeful future. By turns intimate and lively, the story blends warmth, humor, and a sense of drift between old ways and new possibilities as neighbors, relatives, and friends fill the homestead with color and purpose.

In one household, Prairie, Fauqua, Nanno, Miriam, and Dr. Whistler move through daily chores, shared meals, and conversations that test tradition and welcome progress. The book balances tender family moments with stories of resilience, learning, and small acts of courage that keep a fragile dream alive.
