Excerpt from Village Sermon: Second Series
His lot was cast in a very sad and dark time of Jewish history. He saw his country sinking down lower and lower in sin; as the lesson for this morn ing says, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil-doers, children that were corrupters: that had forsaken the Lord, that had provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, that were gone away backward. And as they went down in sin, so also dangers and troubles thickened around the land. A cruel foreign enemy, the Assyrians, hovered around them, laying waste their country and carrying them away as prisoners: these enemies obtained hold of all the land except Jerusalem itself, and almost took Jerusalem.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the writings of Christian apologist and Victorian minister H.E. Hort, focusing on sermons delivered between 1857 and 1872. This volume, similar to a previously released volume of Dr. Hort's work, provides a unique look at the themes of Redemption, Hope, Judgement, and the Second Advent. These sermons, presented in their original form and complemented with other writings by the author, provide a glimpse into Hort's spiritual journey and offer timeless insights on Christian living. The author brings together the apostolic writings and the teachings of Jesus to present a fuller understanding of the Gospel message and its significance in daily life. This exploration is set within the context of Hort's personal history, the background of the Victorian era, and theological debates, giving readers a rich and nuanced understanding of his work.
