En órden á las antiguedades ha contribuido mucho el se ñor conde del Aguila, D. Miguel de Espinosa Maldonado, Tello de Guzman, caballero del órden de Santiago y alcalde mayor de la ciudad de Sevilla, quien habiendo concurrido (1 esta córte, se empeñó tanto en honrarme, que no contento con franquearme liberalísimamente los preciosos monumen tos antiguos que su buen gusto y solicita actividad ha reco gido, procuró facilitarme aun lo que no tenia, mirando esta mi obra como suya, no solo por el deseo de que se ilustren las grandezas de su provincia, sino por el conocimiento que tiene de estas letras, tanto mas recomendables, cuanto menos precisas en personas de semejante origen. Las inscripciones y algunos manuscritos que me comunicó se expresan en sus sitios, como tembien los documentos remitidos por el doctor D. José Cevallos y D. Livino Ignacio Leyrens, sevillanos, y otros que se irán mencionando en adelante.
