Leben, Fehden und Handlungen des Ritters Götz von Berlichingen, Zubenannt mit der Eisernen Hand, Durch Ihn Selbst Beschrieben - Softcover
Synopsis
This book is a revealing autobiographical account of a young mercenary in the service of various nobles and at war against others during the early 16th century. We mostly follow the author as he witnesses and participates in several key battles surrounding the 1504 Bavarian War of Succession. His detailed and thrilling descriptions of his experiences provide unique insight into this complex historical event. The book also examines the soldier's life outside of battle. The harsh reality of living as a mercenary and the camaraderie between fellow soldiers are explored through lively anecdotes that offer a rare glimpse into the heart and mind of a professional warrior of the period. Ultimately, this historical account is a vivid and personal representation of the life of foot soldiers and lower-ranking knights fighting in the German territories during the late middle ages.
