Excerpt from Ricerche Sulla Storia e Sul Diritto Publico di Roma

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book comprehensively explores the evolution of criminal law in ancient Rome, from its rudimentary beginnings to its sophisticated later forms. The author delves into the historical and cultural context that shaped Roman legal thought, examining the influence of religious beliefs, social customs, and political power on the development of criminal sanctions. The book also analyzes key concepts such as perduellio (treason), the role of the senate and people in criminal trials, and the emergence of new forms of punishment like exile and forced labor. Through a meticulous examination of legal texts and historical accounts, the author traces the transformation of Roman criminal law from a system focused on retribution to one that emphasized both punishment and rehabilitation. This book offers a valuable contribution to our understanding of the origins and development of Western legal systems, providing insights into the complex interplay between law, society, and human nature.
