Alkohol, konzentrierte Sublimatlosung, kalt oder heiß, sublimat-essig säure, pikrin-schwefelsäure, - l%ige Lösung von Osmiumsäure und schließlich chrom-osmium-essigsäure. Hierbei ergaben besonders die Osmiumgemische zur Darstellung von Wimpern, Zellgrenzen und -strukturen gute Resultate, zeigten aber die bekannten Schwierigkeiten für die Färbung. Diese Mittel wurden teils direkt angewendet, teils wurden die Tiere vorher durch schwachen (io - 15%igen) Alkohol, eine ungefähr 5%ige Lösung von Chloralhydrat oder durch Chloroform wasser betäubt. Erwies es sich als nötig, einige Organe, z.b. Hoden von Hirudo, frei zu präparieren, so geschah dies bei lebenden Tieren stets unter 3/4%iger Kochsalzlösung. Dies gestattete auch ein längeres Beobachten der Wimper und Blutbewegung am lebenden Objekte.
