Wie kommen Sie nur darauf, nach Richard Wurst zu fragen? Ich muß nur, damit ich den uninteressanten Mann nicht vergesse, gleich sagen, daß ich aus der letzten Zeit von seinen Werken nichts kenne. Vor vielen Jahren hörte ich Quartette und eine Ouverture von ihm, wie sie eben ein viel schreibender Musikus aus Spohr'schen und Mendels sohn'schen Reminiscenzen mit einigen farblosen eigenen Verbindungsfaden zusammenwirkt. Über eine neue Sinfonie von ihm habe ich von Stern 11. A. Wenig Lob vernommen, desto mehr Klage über Langeweile dabei. Stern war zur 9ten Sinfonie hier, mit seiner Schwägerin Jenny Meyer, die auch dabei mit half. Die Orchester Partie hatte ich nie so gut, den Chor, der nicht zahlreich aber sehr correkt war, nie besser gehört. Nur die Soli ließen zu wünschen übrig. Aber dennoch war's erhebend, und Sie müssen mir schreiben, wann Sie wohl hieher zu kommen gedenken, damit ich für die Zeit die beabsichtigte Wiederholung der Sinfonie ein zurichten suche; Sie müssen sie von der hiesigen Kapelle hören, und ich muß die Freude haben, daß ich Sie ein mal dabei als Zuhörerin denken kann, wenn ich sie dirigire. Ach warum sind nur so wenig Menschen im Stand die Seligkeit aufzunehmen, auch nur auf Momente, die Beet hovens Geist ausstrahlt. Es ist so schön, unbedingt zu glauben und wahrlich ihm verdankt man es, von der ersten Note auf die Höhe reiner Hingebung gehoben zu werden. Lauter Reinheit und Kraft!
