Excerpt from Off to Jerusalem
At the request of my dear father, who accom panied me on this journey, and full of gratitude to both my dear parents, to whom I owe this great happiness, I undertake to write the description of this pilgrimage. The happy circumstance that my father and I were able to make this pilgrim age together, to visit together the holy places, and to have therefore the same interests, the same pleasant memories, makes this journey especially dear to me. So may my description not only recall happy memories, but be at the same time dedicated to my dear parents as a modest tribute of my love and gratitude towards them.
