Excerpt from Modification of a Commutator Motor and Its Operation as a Repulsion Motor: Thesis
Every motor combines the characteristics of a motorzv and of a generator. The generator characteri'fitics are due to the counter electro - motive force generated in the amature of the motor, thi'fi counter electrou-motive force being proportional to the speed and to the field flux. An induction motor, when the rotor is held stationary, acts the same as a short-circuited transformer. A repul - sion motor differs from an induction motor primarily, in that, instead of having each coil on the armature shortcircuited separately and all of the time, any one coil is only short-circuited separately when a brush connects the two commutator segments to which that coil is connect ed, and, that the armature of a four pole machine is divided into four parts, each of which is short-circuited, the current passing through the coils in series in each part.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the operation of a repulsion motor, a type of alternating current motor that combines the characteristics of a motor and a generator. The author examines the internal actions of the motor as the position of the brushes is changed, providing a detailed analysis of the variation in transformer voltage, counter electromotive force, torque, and speed. The book also explores the effect of resistance and reactance in the armature circuit on the motor's performance. The author's insights into the complex interactions within the motor offer valuable knowledge for electrical engineers, researchers, and anyone interested in the design and operation of electric motors.
