Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. In this book, the author provides an examination of the historic battle known as the Battle of Camollia, fought in Italy during the Italian Wars. The battle, which took place in 1526, is examined through five documents which provide insight into the political and military aspects of the conflict. The first document is a narrative poem that describes the victory of the city of Siena over the Florentine army. The second document is a letter from the commander of the victorious Sienese army to the city's governing council, describing the battle's events. The third document is a report from a Florentine diplomat who was present at the battle, providing an account of the Florentine army's defeat. The fourth document is a letter from the Sienese government to the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, requesting assistance in defending the city against further Florentine attacks. The final document is a poem that laments the destruction of Rome during the Sack of Rome in 1527. Together, these documents offer a detailed account of the Battle of Camollia and the political context in which it took place, shedding light on the complex dynamics of warfare and power struggles in Renaissance Italy.
