Ma - anche altro illustre letterato, l' ab. Mehus, osservò altro Codi ce col fraticello dipinto con varie bianca e di ...co lor cinerizio, e per queste insegne giudicò bene di allogarlo tra i frati Godenti; e il cav. Tiraboschi si accon'10dò all' avviso del Mehus perchè un Bo lognese, il secentista Ovidio Montalbani, onorò fra Guidotto del titolo di Nobile e di Cavaliere. Ma la miniatura di un Codice el' asserzione di as sai poco critico scrittore mi paiono puntelli troppo fievoli e può forse indebolire il ragionamento del Tiraboschi anche il sapersi che l' opera fu scritta forse prima dell'anno 1260 e che non avanti que st' anno 1 frati Godenti posero loro sede in Bologna. In ogni modo poco importera che Guidotto fosseo Domenicano o Godente, e basterà essere certi che non gli vada tolta dagli omeri la cocolla, perchè Frate si chiama egli stesso nello scrivere il suo pro prio nome.
