Synopsis
This book is the author's annual address to fellow members of the Royal Geographical Society. It begins by describing the many developments within the society since the author's previous address, including the establishment of a list of referees and the ongoing project to improve the society's library. The author goes on to discuss a number of ongoing geographical exploration projects, including Arctic expeditions led by Nansen, Jackson, Wellman, and Peary. The author praises these expeditions and their leaders, emphasizing the importance of Arctic exploration for increasing our understanding of the Earth's geography and climate. The author also discusses the sad fate of the Swedish explorer Alfred Bjorling and his companions, who were lost while attempting to explore Ellesmere Land. The author concludes by highlighting the importance of continuing to support Arctic exploration and by expressing hope that Bjorling and his companions may yet be found alive.
