Excerpt from Louisiana Conservationist, Vol. 35: May-June 1983
Reservoir is open and the water is flowing through the turbines, striped bass from all over that -acre lake congregate right in front of the gates. The water rushing through the gates simulates the current action of a river and attracts the fish, which in their natural environment move from salt water up a river to spawn.
The gates were open this past February when I went striped bass fishing with well-known Toledo Bend striper guide Carl Ungerer. It seemed like all the stripers were packed one on top of the other right in front of that dam. And we were. Stuck behind the buoy line some 200 yards back. No one is allowed to fish inside the floating barrier line.
