Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a convenient method for computing railway earthwork in cubic yards by averaging end areas. The method is a simplified form of the prismoidal formula and can be used without tables. It gives approximately the same results as the widely used method by middle areas, but allows of computing only the approximate solid at first, which will answer for all purposes except the nal estimate, leaving the prismoidal correction to be computed at leisure on those volumes only where it is large enough to be appreciable. The method can also be applied to three-level, velevel, and irregular ground. The prismoidal correction is then easily applied, allowing of great accuracy in the volume found. This book is indispensable for railway engineers and contractors.
