Synopsis
This book discusses the importance of the historical Navigation Laws of Great Britain, which supported British trade and sea power. The author argues that recent suspensions of this longstanding code have reduced British shipping trade, employment of shipbuilding professionals and mariners, and the availability of seamen for the navy. The suspension was meant to encourage the construction of American ships to pay for British goods, but instead led to an increase in American shipping at the expense of British tonnage. Consequently, the author argues for caution in deviating from established maritime laws.
