Synopsis
This book is an exploration of the revolts in the provinces of Upper and Lower Canada. What began as a demand for greater influence in the governance of the provinces, snowballed into widespread insurrection against the Crown. The author contends that this rebellious behaviour was initiated by a small but influential group of disaffected people in Lower Canada who spread their ideas into Upper Canada. The author believes that the British government's policy of conciliation, rather than suppression, only emboldened the rebels, thus demonstrating that a hard line must be taken to prevent similar events in the future.
