This book presents a country-by-country projection of softwood log demand and supply for 1990 and 1995. It examines the markets for small lower grade construction grade softwood logs that compete with US. number 3 coastal hemlock saw logs. These logs are smaller, lower grade softwood roundwood logs. The author presents demand and supply projections for each supplying and consuming country around the Pacific Rim, such as Canada, Chile, New Zealand, the United States, and The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Expected purchasers include China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. The book concludes that potential Pacific Rim demand for construction grade softwood logs is projected to expand steadily through 1995. Log supplies will lag slightly behind demand until 1990, generating about a 10 percent increase in prices. Prices are expected to be level thereafter.
