Synopsis

This book provides an account of the history, organization, and rites of Freemasonry. The book was originally published in the 1820s shortly after the author experienced events that led to him being hunted by Freemasons. As such, the book was published at a time when Masons used secrecy to protect their craft, and many of their rituals had never been described publicly. The author became a Freemason many years before writing about its history and rituals. He was initiated into the fraternity as an Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason. While the author?s experiences may have led to a somewhat biased outlook, they also gave him a unique vantage point, as he experienced firsthand the oaths and secret ceremonies of Freemasons. This book is of particular interest to historians and scholars of Freemasonry. It exposes the inner workings of the Masons, revealing information that had been kept secret for many years among them.
