Excerpt from Elements of the Differential and Integral Calculus<br/><br/>IN many respects this work is quite different from any other on the same subject, though in preparing it there has been no attempt at originality beyond presenting the principles in a more tangible form than usual, and thus securing a better text-book for the ordinary student of mathematics. The aim has been to prepare a work for beginners, and at the same time to make it sufficiently comprehensive for the requirements of the usual undergraduate course. The chief distinction of the treatise is that it is based on the conception of Proportional Variations.
