Excerpt from The Suppressed Evidence, or Proofs of the Miraculous Faith and Experience of the Church of Christ in All Ages: From Authentic Records of the Fathers, Waldenses, Hussites, Reformers, United Brethren, &C.; An Historical Sketch, Suggested by the Hon. And Rev. B. W. Noel's "Remarks on the Revival of Miraculous Powers in the Church"
Besides some miracles of post-apostolic date, which must be miracles, draw your definition as tight as you will, the present work comprehends two sorts of occurrences which bear a miraculous or supernatural character: some, which have their origin immediately from the God of truth; others, which are traced to Satan, the father of lies. With respect to the former, every reader may understand this, that there areoccurrences which seem less than miracles, but which nevertheless are more than particular providences. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the historical perspective on miracles and their significance in the Christian church. The author examines the beliefs of key figures throughout history, from early Church Fathers like Augustine and Chrysostom, to the Reformation era figures like Luther and Calvin. The author presents evidence from various sources, including historical texts and writings, to demonstrate that, contrary to popular belief, the expectation of miracles was not entirely absent in these historical periods. In fact, the author argues that while some miracles were considered divine, others were viewed as the work of Satan, and these "lying miracles" were often seen as a counterpoint to genuine miracles. The author's analysis challenges the notion that the age of miracles ended with the Apostles, suggesting that miracles continued throughout history in various forms. This book provides a compelling exploration of the Church's historical perspective on miracles, shedding light on a subject that is often misunderstood and debated.
