I. W and subsequently fl, ii, lion. On a former occasion I remarked that this word originally hailed from some east-iranian language and was transmitted to China through the medium of the Yue-ei.l This opinion should now be modified by the formula that the word i, a or se, actually represents a Yue-éi word with the meaning lion, and that this Yue-éi word is closely related to its Iranian congeners.
