Synopsis
This book explores the life and times of British operatic legend, Sims Reeves. The charismatic tenor enjoyed global celebrity and sang for royalty during a career spanning nearly 50 years. Despite his successes on stage, Reeves was a complex character. The author traces his rise to fame from humble beginnings, describing Reeves's voice as a "combination of beauty of tone, perfect purity of intonation, sympathetic quality and dramatic intensity". The author also examines the tenor's tumultuous personal life, marked by bankruptcy, failed relationships, and public scandal. From his debut to his final performance at the grand age of 78, this book provides a fascinating insight into the life and legacy of one of the greatest English tenors.
