The solution of a solid is always greatly facilitated by dividing the substance as finely as possible. If it be hard, it may be pulverized; but soft substances, such as flesh, glandular structure, etc., must be cut up finely with a knife or scissors, and, if further division be neces sary, it may be effected by trituration with coarsely powdered glass or quartz sand.
