University infirmary. Death came as the result of a severe stroke and terminated a confinement of many months. Professor Waddell taught in both the preparatory and col lege departments during his long attachment to the University, which began in 1871. At one time he was director Of dramatics, but retired from active work in 1910. Many early pupils of Santa Clara cherish his memory, for he was ever a gentleman and a scholar.
