The Author wishes to express his acknowledgments to Messrs. Bradbury and Agnew, to Whom he is indebted for their permission to republish the present collection of sketches, which made their first appearance in the pages of mr. Punch; and also for their leave, as the sole proprietors of the copyright, to reproduce Mr. Bernard Partridge's admirable illustrations.
