Sir: I have the honor to forward herewith for transmittal to Congress a report on Production of the Precious Metals in the United States for the calendar year being my fourth report and the ninth of the same series prepared by this Bureau under annual appropriations.

The statistical matter has been reduced, as far as practicable, to a tabular form to the exclusion of textual matter, this change being in accord, as I conceive, with the general purpose and method of mineral statistics.

The editorial and statistical labors of this report have, as usual, been shared with Mr. E. O. Leech, of the Bureau of the Mint.
