Scrivevo dodici anni or sono che dovendo l'arte nelle opere sue riprodurre il carattere del tempo ed essendo il tempo nostro ricco di pensiero il pensiero scientifico e critico in atto. Il pensiero sociale, il pensiero politico, bene o male, sono en trati nelle teste del popolo e le occupano mi sembrava opportuno che la poesia della nostra fine di secolo riflettosse e negli intenti e nella conce zione la presenza d'un pensiero organico, nesso tra l'arte e i giudizi, le cure, lo spirito del secolo.
