Im Folgenden habe ich versucht, eine Darstellung der Syntax und des Stiles im Repressor des Bischofs Reginald Pecock zu geben, des bedeutendsten Prosaschriftstellers des in der Entwicklung der englischen Sprache so inter essanten 15. Jahrhunderts, dessen Werk Henry Morley in seiner Litteraturskizze bezeichnet als „a piece of natural fifteenth century English, which yet survives as one of the best and most considerable specimens of early prose among the treasures of our literature. Benutzt wurde die Ausgabe Churchill Babington's: The Repressor of over much blamyng of the clergy by Reginald Pecock, D. D., sometime Lord Bischop of Chichester. Published under the direction of the Master of the Rolls. II vol. London 1860.
