Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is an extensive investigation into the nature of the relationship between Catullus and Lesbia. Drawing on multiple sources and historical accounts, this book analyzes Catullus's paeans to and bitter invectives against Lesbia, reaching a nuanced conclusion about the identity of the enigmatic muse who inspired some of Western literature's most enduring love poetry. The book also examines the literary significance of Catullus's work, positing that it is a groundbreaking example of a poet using his personal experiences as inspiration for poetry, a practice that has since become commonplace. By analyzing Catullus's depiction of his relationship with Lesbia and his unique style, the author argues that Catullus forged a new path for love poetry and laid the groundwork for much of the Western literary tradition.
