Excerpt from American Civics Handbook<br/><br/>This book is the outgrowth of class-room experience. It is published because of a demand from friends for copies of the notes which are the basis of the text. For several years the author vainly tried to correlate Civil Government and United States History in a single course of one semester by the use of several texts; the vanity of the effort caused the preparation of the notes of which this book is the elaboration. After five years of use, in manuscript, he has found the plan outlined within these pages eminently successful and he presents it to the public with the hope that it may be of use to others.
