Immerhin bleibt die Tatsache bestehen, dass der Bibliothek' von St. Gallen im Vergleich mit vielen andern ein günstiges Geschick beschert gewesen ist, u. Dass in dieser berühmten Stätte der Kultur, die auch dem Alter nach besonders ehrwür dig ist, eine reiche Sammlung von Bücherschätzen geborgen ist, die weit in alte Zeiten zurückgehen. Da darunter eine be trächtliche Zahl von Handschriften steckt, die aus vorkarolin gischer Zeit stammen, scheint allerdings eine sehr günstige Grundlage gegeben für die Beantwortung der - Frage, welche Schrift in der Schreibstube des Klosters geschrieben wurde zu der Zeit, als die grosse Entwicklung einsetzte, die dann schliesslich zu der karolingischen Minuskel geführt hat.
