Bande auch den lokalgeschichtlichen Untersuchungen eine grössere Bedeutung beigelegt und zum ersten Male sämmtlichen zu erwähnenden Ortschaften, nicht nur, wie bisher, den Städten und wichtigeren Plätzen, eine kurze geschichtliche Einleitung vorausgeschickt worden. Er. Möglicht wurde dies durch den glücklichen Umstand, dass in der Person des Herrn Professor Dr. H. Ehrensberger ein Mitarbeiter gefunden wurde, der als Pfleger der badischen historischen Kommission während seiner mehrjährigen Anwesenheit in Tauberbischofsheim derselbe ist mittlerweile nach Bruchsal versetzt worden einen Einblick in die Geschichte der Gegend gewonnen hatte und sich bereit erklärte, seine Studien im Interesse unserer Publikation weiter zuführen und zu verwerthen. Dem Plane des Ganzen entsprechend, erscheinen die Ergebnisse langwieriger und mühsamer archivalischer Forschungen meist nur in wenige Zeilen zusammengedrängt, doch genügen diese, um den geschichtlichen Boden zu kennzeichnen, aus dern die Kunst jener Gegend entsprossen ist. Von welchem Werthe diese lokalgeschichtlichen Nachweise bei den kunstgeschichtlichen Untersuchungen gewesen sind, bedarf keiner Erläuterung, und der Unterzeichnete erfüllt nur eine angenehme Pflicht, indem er dem ge nannten Gelehrten für seine Unterstützung, die sich schliesslich auch auf das Mitlesen der Korrektur des ganzen Baindes erstreckte, den verbindfichsten Dank ausspricht.
