Diese Veroflentlichungen kamen unzweifelhaft meiner Arbeit sehr zu statteh; sie ließen aber noch manches zu untersuchen übrig. Ich versuchte darum, wenn möglich, alles nochmals selbst naéhzu prüfen, teils um stets einen eigenen Standpunkt in der Beurteilung der Formen einnehmen zu können, teils um das bisher Bekannte zu einem abgerundeten Bilde zu erganzen. Alles das war neben den anderen Arbeiten, die mein Beruf mit sich brachte, die Ursache, daß ein Quinquennium verfioß, bis dieser erste Teil abgeschlossen verlag.
