Wenn hervorragende Leistungen indisch-islamischer Kunst dem heutigen Europa trotz alledem bekanntgeworden sind, ist dies deutschen und französischen Gelehrten zu danken Wollten die deutschen Forscher ihr Augenmerk noch mehr diesem so gut wie vollig unbeachteten Untersuchungsgebiet zuwenden, so machten sie die Welt nicht nur in künstlerischer Hinsicht reicher.
Ich kann es mir nicht versagen, den Herren Wasmuth und Dr. Bossert die meinen Arbeiten seit längerem größtes Interesse entgegenbringen, herzlich dafür zu danken, daß ihre Liebe zur indischen Kunst sie veranlaßte, durch mich das Tor zu dem verschlossenen Schatz indisch-islamischer Herrlichkeiten öffnen zu lassen. Den genannten Herren verdanke ich es, daß ich, ein Bürger von Delhi, aus der Hauptstadt des ehemaligen Reiches, Gelegenheit habe, dieses Büchlein herauszugeben. Langjährige historische Studien in allen Ländern islamischer Kultur ließen mich an diese Ausgabe indischer Miniaturen nicht unvorbereitet herantreten. In einer den Bildern vorangehenden Einleitung will ich ein allgemeines Bild der in Frage kom menden Zeit entwerfen, dann die künstlerischen Verhältnisse und Bedingungen in gro ßen Zugen schildern und endlich mit einer Erklärung der abgebildeten Miniaturen schließen.
