Synopsis

Explore the prophets of Israel through the Old Testament itself, as taught in a focused course that treats their lives, surroundings, and messages.

This edition compiles a sequence of lectures that examine the prophets as they appear in the Hebrew scriptures, emphasizing the original text, historical context, and the methods used to study them. It highlights why careful, direct study of the scriptures matters for understanding prophecy, messianic ideas, and the shape of Israel’s religious history.

  • Who the prophets were, their functions, and how they spoke for Yahweh
  • Key Hebrew terms and concepts used to describe prophetic work
  • Textual criticism basics and why the Masoretic text matters
  • Historical settings, including the Persian period and the roles of Ezra and Nehemiah
Ideal for readers of Old Testament studies, seminary courses, or anyone seeking a clear, workmanlike guide to prophetic literature and its transmission.
