de Ea, Quae Inter Timaeum Et Lycophronem Intercedit, Ratione: Dissertatio Inauguralis Quam Ad Summos in Philosophia Honores AB Amplissimo ... Impetrandos (Classic Reprint) (Latin Edition) - Softcover
Synopsis
Dissertatio in fontibus Lycophronis et Timaei de fabulis Ulixae illustrans
The book surveys how later writers and editors traced the stories of Odysseus, comparing Lycophron’s Alexandra with Timaeus, and tracing many verses to their classical sources. It presents scholarly arguments about where those legends came from and how editors have interpreted them over time.
In clear, accessible prose, the volume frames the scope and value of the inquiry. It explains who the key figures were, what texts they used, and how different readings arose. The work does not reveal every detail, but it shows how scholars weigh evidence, compare passages, and assess competing theories. Readers gain a sense of how ancient storytelling traveled across authors and regions, shaping familiar myths.- How Alexandrian and early Roman era sources influence later poetry and myth-making.
- How editors and scholars have treated disputed verses and interpolations.
- Which ancient authorities are cited in debates about the origins of Ulixean tales.
- A critical overview of competing viewpoints and the methods used to test them.
