Synopsis
This book is an autobiographical account by a university student who spent years in the city of Coimbra, Portugal, renowned for its university. The book combines personal narrative with prose and verse which is rich in its evocation of the city, which is known for its storied academic and student life. The student author provides a distinct insight into the city's traditions and the student culture as it existed in the early 20th century. He writes both lovingly and critically of the university and the lives of the students and lecturers. By turns nostalgic, whimsical, and reflective, this book offers a candid and often humorous insight into the student experience during a time of change, and reflects a love of the city and its ancient university.
