Explore antique discoveries and documentary plates from Vetusta Monumenta, Vol. 4.

This stand-alone illustrated volume collects detailed notes, plates, and plates-related discussion from 18th‑century British archaeology, focusing on early finds, religious vessels, and Roman artifacts. The book also surveys architectural remains and urban history through plans and elevations of major sites.

See the range of artifacts described, from helmets and paterae to vases and tableware, with discussion on their possible sacred or ceremonial use.
Follow the narrative of a 1790s discovery near Ribchester, plus commentary on how artifacts were found, preserved, and interpreted.
Examine plates and references to historic works by Caylus, Gori, and others, plus cross‑references to ancient standards and Roman military equipment.
Review plans and elevations of medieval and ancient sites, including Glastonbury Abbey remains and the Tower of London, to understand architectural context.

Ideal for readers of antiquarian studies, Roman artifacts, and architectural history, this edition provides a window into how 18th‑century scholars organized and presented material culture.
