Un sanctuaire, la Ka'ba, y assemblait des divinités mal con nues; des pierres y étaient l'objet d'un culte primitif; on les touchait, on s'y frottait, on tournait autour d'elles en une sorte de danse sacrée. Des serviteurs du temple tran'smettaient des oracles directement ou par l'intermédiaire de flèches sans pointes (azlâm, aqdâh) que l'on tirait au sort. Des pierres levées, des tas de pierres jamra, rajam), marquaient les enceintes divines (haram, hima) et servaient 'étapes aux fidèles.
