Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book introduces the reader to the theory of elliptic functions which form an important class of functions in mathematics. The theory presents unique challenges as although they are doubly periodic like trigonometric functions, they are considerably more complex in their behavior, and due to the limits of the trigonometric functions, cannot be treated using them alone. The study of elliptic functions took on new significance in the mid-19th century with the work of Niels Henrik Abel and Carl Jacobi, who developed key theorems that have provided a foundation for much of the work in this area since. The concepts discussed in this book serve as an accessible roadmap to the advances made by Abel and Jacobi, and their enduring legacy in the field.
