Certain words spoken and deeds done by our Saviour the last week of his life are generally understood in senses that contradict the whole tenor of his precepts and example. So under stood they have armed skeptics, troubled believ ers, and obscured for all his spiritual splendor. I believe that this appearance of inconsistency, Wherever it' occurs, has been caused by a mis understanding of the Master's language or action. A goodly number of earnest and devout believ ers, troubled by what looked to them like vari ableness or the shadow of turning in their Saviour, have assured me that they found relief from their trouble in the views presented on the following pages. Their experience encourages the hope that others, troubled as they were, may share their sense of relief.
