For each of the modes of the occurence of gold megéds have been and are continually being devised. The majority of these pro cesses are unsuccessful, yet a few are recognised as being of in tense commercial importance. For all ores not containing gold in the free state chemical methods are necessary. For high grade ores these have been successful, but it is still difficult to extract poor ores profitably unless free milling. The principal processes of commercial importance, and it is only of these we desire to treat.
