Chriflopher Columbus, a Genoefian,_whom they fent to difcover thofe unknown parts, 1492. But we find by records, Columbus, offered his fervice in the year 1488, to King Henry, the Seventh, and by accident undertook it for the Spaniards. In the interim, King Henry gave a commillion to John Cabot and his three Ions, Sebaltian, Liewis, and Sautius. John and Sebaftian, well provided, fetting fail, ranged a great part of this unknowri world, in the year 1497. For though Columbus had found certain ifles, it was 1498 ere he faw the continent, which was a year after Cabot. Now Americas came, a long time after, though the whole continent to this day is called America, after his name, yet Sebal'tian Cabot difcovered much more than them all, for he failed to about forty degrees fouthvvard of the line, and to fixty-feven towards the north: for which King Henry the Eighth knighted him, and made him Grand Pilate of England. Being very aged, King Edward the Sixth gave him a penlion of 166l._ I gs. 4d. Yearly. By his direflions Sir Hugh vvillowby was fent to find out the country of Rufiia, but the next year he was found fro'zen to death'in his fhip, and all his company.
