We have an example of this state of the public mind at the present moment. One party affirms that Rome is making great strides to power; another party derides this as an idle tale. The principles of our Protestant Constitution, nay of the Reformation, tremble in the balance, say some. Don't raise that silly cry, say others, kick out of the way the dead horse of Popery, says Mr. Spurgeon. It seems to me, says our shrewd Premier, that the real cry is no Protestantism.
